TKTC Fact Sheet & Audition Info...
The Cast Lists will be posted on Wednesday, December 2nd at 12:00pm on our website at www.thekidstheatercompany.blogspot.com. The Cast Lists will also be posted at the Los Cerritos Theater after school on Wednesday.
There is a mandatory Parent Meeting, Thursday, December 3rd from 6:00-7:00pm. This is where the registration fee will be collected, Scripts & Rehearsal Schedules will be handed out, Rules and Guidelines will be discussed, Volunteer Committees will be assigned, etc…If you cannot attend this meeting, please send a representative of some kind.
The deadline to pay the registration fee of $225.00, is by the first rehearsal of the participant. (This fee includes: The show costume, a cast-t-shirt, a show playbill, professional acting & singing instruction, a professional concert pianist, and much more!!)
Please make sure that your actor or actress brings their SCRIPTS and a PENCIL/PEN to every rehearsal!! This script is their map, without it, they will be completely lost, and as a result will fall behind. If a script is lost/misplaced, it is your job to notify ‘Kyle’ or TKTC Staff and a new copy will be emailed to you…Only (1) Binded script will be distributed per cast member.
We ask that you pack your child a snack of some kind for rehearsals. SNACKS are not provided and rehearsals tend to go 3 ½ to 4 hours long, so please plan accordingly.
It’s understood that we all have busy schedules, sometimes things just come up, and at times – life can be crazy! With that said, being part of a Theatrical Production is a big commitment, so PLEASE try and attend EVERY rehearsal. In case you hadn’t noticed this is a much shorter rehearsal period than we’ve had in the past. Therefore, EVERY rehearsal is an important one. If there are scheduling conflicts, I completely understand, and can be flexible (to a point). Just please let me know in advance and understand that missing rehearsals does AFFECT the rest of the cast and crew as well.
It would help a great deal if Parents could encourage their kids to review the scenes we will be rehearsing prior to that rehearsal. The more familiar they are with the scene we’re rehearsing, and their lines in that scene, the more they will get out of this experience!! The deadline to have all lines memorized is by Tuesday, February 23rd for Act Two, and Sunday, February 28th for BOTH ACTS!!
Putting together a production takes many hands. At the Parent Meeting there will be an opportunity to volunteer for a selection of production committees. This is by no means a requirement, but any time you that you are willing to donate to this production and its committees would be greatly appreciated.
All iPhones, Blackberries, Cellular Devices, iPods, PSP’s, and things of that nature ARE PROHIBITED during rehearsals. This is not the time for texting, downloading, playing Tetris, PacMan, Guitar Hero, Twister, or anything else!! These are all distractions and will only lead us down a wrong path. I understand we need cell phones to contact family for pick up, and that is ok. BUT, no playing with any of the above mentioned items
DURING REHEASAL HOURS!!
Bullying & Name Calling!
Whenever you take part in a TKTC Production it is always considered a “BULLY-FREE ZONE!” I take this very seriously. There is ABSOLUTELY no name calling, or Bullying of any kind. If your child is teased, picked on, physically harmed in any way, alert Kyle immediately. I prefer you discuss this with me in person, but via Email or Phone Call will be fine as well.
This is not just a theater program, but a safe haven for kids of all ages and all walks of life. It is sooo important to me as well as this theater company to have every single child succeed!! You have to believe it before you can be it!! And one of the main goals of TKTC is to work on teaching you how to believe in yourself and find your inner strengths!!
Lastly, just please respect one another! Even though certain roles are double cast, we are not in competition with one another. Being double cast means you are two equal parts of a whole. We are a family here! Being part of a show isn’t about one person, its about being part of a team, having a shared experience. Do not ruin this experience by being mean, or competitive with one another. Let’s use this as a chance to all continue to grow and develop even further as actors and people.

Meet the Characters of "Alice Rocks in Wonderland!"
Alice – This character appears in every scene of the show. She is young, curious, emotional, and at times a little emotional. There is dancing and minimal singing required to play this role. This show is all about “Alice’s” journey through this strange and curious land. Her facial expressions and reactions are what truly tell this colorful story.
The Tudor – This character appears at the very beginning and end of the story. She is stern and a foreshadowing to The Queen of Hearts. Her role is the authoritarian to Alice. She gets very impatient with Alice’s constant daydreaming and short attention span. Whoever plays this character will most likely have another role because the character has such a long break between appearances.
The White Rabbit – Always in a hurry and completely nervous and neurotic is this character. This is the one reason Alice even ends up even travelling to Wonderland to begin with. The White Rabbit works for the Queen of Hearts, (which probably explains why he is so nervous), he/she has to have some singing and dancing experience. This character sings and dances to Elvis Presley among some other songs!
Little Alice – This character only appears in one brief scene in the beginning when Alice shrinks. Whoever is cast in this role would have multiple parts. There is no singing or dancing required, but must have a loud speaking voice!
Tweedle Dee
& Tweedle Dum – These two characters are among the first that Alice meets on her bizarre, and curious journey through this land. They are confusing, baffling and really set the tone for the rest of the show. They both must be comfortable singing and dancing as they have a big musical number in their scene. They are comical characters but also, there is an anger and aggressiveness that comes out in them as well. These two characters have a lot of fun, but their scene must appear as “organized chaos!”
The Flowers
The Rose – This is the lead Flower. She is in charge of the entire garden and lets everyone know it. She is overall a good natured flower but isn’t afraid to speak out against other flowers who might try and oppose her.
Rose Bud – This is the child of the Rose. He/She is very sweet and at the same time rebellious against the common thinking of the Flowers. The Rose Bud likes Alice very much whereas the other Flowers are threatened by her because she is different.
The Orchid – This is the one flower that continually engages in a power play over the garden with The Rose. She is very full of herself and is quite the “know-it-all!” This flower is convinced that she is the “most important” flower in the garden!
The Lazy Daisies (4) – These characters are just as they sound,
LAZY! They constantly feel as though they are being
interrupted by the other flowers from their “nap-time”. The
daisies are not just lazy, but also a little slow on the up-take.
Whenever conflict arises, these would be the last flowers you would call upon!
The Sunflower – This flower is bright, positive, and full of
energy. Almost to a point of being annoying to the other flowers. She is the first one up in the morning and has a bit of a conflict with the daisy patch!
The Morning Glory – This flower is very upbeat and full of
energy, but also compulsively falls asleep at the drop of a hat!
Morning Glory will be happily and coherently carrying on a conversation with the other flowers, then just fall asleep! Needless to say, this is very irritating to The Rose, The Orchid, and the other flowers.
The Tulip - The Tulip is kind of a “valley girl”, she can get very
gossipy and loves to spread the news throughout the entire garden. This is viewed as very immature by some of the more “seasoned” flowers. She enjoys being rooted next to the Daffodil. Tulip loves being a flower and has an opinion on every other flower in the garden and isn’t afraid to vocalize how she feels!
The Daffodil – The Daffodil loves her friendship with The Tulip,
but also has really bad allergies. She is continually sneezing all over the other flowers who are rooted near her. This can obviously get rather annoying to some of the others, especially The Tulip who resides right next to her. “Daffy” as she is called loves the garden, but her allergies don’t always agree with the garden setting!
The Banzai – This flower is the most aggressive of them all. She
is solitary and tends to isolate herself from the rest of “the girls”. The Killer Bees tend to hang out with Banzai. Because the Bees are always ready for a fight, The Banzai tends to be their drill seargent of sorts. She is suspicious of ALL strangers, and is quick to comment on any “weak links” in the garden.
The Violet – This flower is very glamorous. She is always
making a production out of things and get be very dramatic. Violet or “Vye” as she likes to be called is sweet overall, but because she is emotional, she can switch pretty quick. This character could have an accent of some kind!!
The Tiger Lily – Mysterious…
The Poppy – The Poppy is full of meaningful expressions, and
tries to relate even the simplest of situations to a deep, momentous tale of sorts. It is rumored she keeps a voodoo doll of some of the flowers, but that’s all it is, a rumor. Most of the other flowers think she is a witch. But she is just very in touch with her spiritual side.
Captain Buzz &
The Killer Bees (3 or 4) – These are without a doubt the “Armed Force”
of the garden and various parts of Wonderland. They are bumbling fools led by their fearless, and at times mindless leader, Captain Buzz! They protect the garden the majority of the time, but they are Bees, so they are constantly buzzing through Wonderland. Once they cross paths with Alice it is their primary mission to track her down, as they feel she is a threat and a huge liability to the garden and Wonderland.
The Snail – The Snail is slow, but extremely efficient. He/She is on a path, and will not be deterred from that path. We see this character travelling along the journey with Alice. In fact, Alice is quite confused how a Snail, that moves so “slowly” can continually keep up with her. But the Snail stays to her path, without hesitation and is never distracted or sidetracked, where as Alice is!
The Caterpillar – This character is distinguished, educated, and loves to play mind games. The Caterpillar’s main objective is to confuse, and annoy Alice on many levels. Once he realizes that he is getting to her, he relishes in it. He des give her helpful hints though, but it would be against all that he stands for to give her the answers. This character does sing and appears in a couple of scenes where he is the focal point.
The Butterfly Trio (3) – The Butterflies love the Caterpillar and primarily hang with him by the mushroom. They are also intrigued by Alice. They think she is pretty and are very curious about her. They are also probably spying on her for The Caterpillar. They fly in and out of the story. We see them several times throughout the show. These roles do require some dance experience as they serve also as “Wonderland Dancers.” During any production number they will appear and add to the routine.
The Cheshire Cat – The Chesire Cat is the most mysterious, and devilish of all the characters that Alice encounters. She is creepy, haunting, and not afraid to get menacing with Alice. There is a singing solo involved with whoever plays this role. The Cheshire Cat appears in quite a few scenes with Alice and other characters. She is definitely an integral, and distracting part of Alice’s journey.
The Mad Hatter – This character leads the Tea Party which is probably one of the biggest scenes in the show. He loves to taunt Alice, but is also genuinely confused as to whether he likes her or not. Because he is “mad” or “crazy” his mind changes constantly. This character does some singing and dancing, so whoever plays this role should be comfortable with that. This scene is very open to some comedy improv and basic imrovisation with the audience, so if anyone has a background in ad-libbing, and improvisation, it will help them a great deal.
The March Hare – The March Hare is the right hand person to The Mad Hatter. The Hare is far more playful, and happy-go-lucky than the Hatter. The Hare sings and dances as well. The Hare is very agreeable to whatever The Mad Hatter says and does, but can also snap at any moment.
The Doormouse – This character is very, very, sleepy. The Doormouse is the opposite, or antithesis of everything that The Hatter and The Hare are! However, when the song is performed or the word, “CAT” is mentioned, Doormouse kicks it into high gear!!
The Queen of Hearts – Of all the characters that Alice meets on her journey, this is without a doubt the most menacing, and dangerous. She has a great deal of power and is probably the main villain in this story. The Queen is spoiled, she holds court and rules over all her cards and most everything in Wonderland – even her husband, The King! The Queen loves being the center of attention and is a diva of sorts. She created a group of cards known as The Paparazzi, which are constantly snapping pictures of her and trying to get her autograph, even when she doesn’t want them to. The Queen does do some singing and some comedic dancing. There is some stage combat involved for this character during the big “Croquet” scene. It is the Queen’s main objective to figure out just who Alice is and why she is in Wonderland. We find out at the end of the show that most every character that was travelling along with Alice, i.e.(The White Rabbit, The Snail, The Butterflies) are all heading to The Queen of Hearts. She controls everything in Wonderland!
The King of Hearts – He is a loving, doting, and pathetic husband. His only purpose in life is to cater to his dear, his wife, The Queen. Even though he rather takes to Alice, like a father to a daughter, the Queen is constantly snapping at him. He is a nice man overall, but he has no identity, and like everyone else fears the wrath of his wife, The Queen!
The Complaining Cards – These are a group of 4 or 5 cards marching through Wonderland, whining and complaining about the Queen. Some are injured from abuse at the hands of The Queen, and others are just scared. They march in and out of some scenes setting the mood and foreshadowing the Queen of Hearts.
The Cards (About 20) – These cards are the military, with the Queen as their general. They march in unison and have big reactions based on whatever the Queen says or tells them to do. They have a couple of production numbers and some are involved in a fair amount of stage combat!
Birthday Presents/Party Favors – These are extra dancers and singers for The Tea Party scene. They are a lot of fun, and sing and dance out in the audience. Whoever plays this part must have a lot of energy and be able to sing loudly with lots of energy!!
The Judge – This character is the only one who gets to tell The Queen what to do. He is the final word in Wonderland, and inevitably sentences Alice at the end of the show. He is supposed to be taken very seriously, but he is a big joker. Even though he only appears in one scene, it is one of the most important scenes of the show. Although he s the Judge, and has the final word, he is also influenced by The Queen.
